A small-town bank executive, Christopher Price, is devoted to his childhood friend, renowned war correspondent Joseph Jefferson Parker. However, his wife Mary is displeased with his idolization of Joe. When Joe arrives on the eve of their second-honeymoon trip to New York City, he asks Chris to pretend his wife is posing as his own in order to deceive his boss, who believes Joe married a foreign woman while on assignment. Chris convinces Mary to play along, leading to a series of misunderstandings and complications in New York. Eventually, Mary decides to teach Chris and Joe a lesson by pretending to fall in love with Joe.
