In the coastal town of Newport, Oregon, a family faces economic struggles and personal conflicts. Jeff and his wife Mattie work together, while their sons Chris and Steve face their own challenges. Chris, who is unemployed, is struggling to find direction, and his relationship with his girlfriend Jamie ends. After Steve's return from military service, the family is shocked to learn that Chris is actually Jeff's step-son.
