Three teenage friends, Libby, Kit, and Libby's younger sister Tess, are left alone at their family's isolated country home while their parents are away. To pass the time, they decide to make prank phone calls to random strangers, eventually settling on a seductive script. One of the recipients, Steve Marak, is particularly intriguing to Libby, who falls for his voice and response. Unbeknownst to the girls, Steve has just murdered his wife and is now obsessed with uncovering the identity of the caller to silence her. Meanwhile, Steve's neighbor, Amy, is also obsessed with him and wants to become his next wife.
