In the town of Vienna, a saloon owner builds a business outside of town, dreaming of establishing a new town once the railroad arrives. However, the locals want her gone. When a stagecoach is robbed and a man is killed, the town officials, led by Emma Small, arrive at the saloon to arrest Vienna's friends, the Dancin' Kid and his gang. Vienna refuses to back down, and is supported by an old acquaintance, Johnny Guitar, who harbors secrets of his own.
