Poland, 1983. Despite the suspension of martial law, the communist authorities still suppress the Solidarity opposition. Grzegorz Przemyk, son of poet Barbara Sadowska, is arrested, beaten, and dies after two days. Jurek Popiel, a colleague, witnesses the fatal beating and decides to fight for justice, despite the authorities' attempts to discredit him and Przemyk's mother.
