In rural China during the 1990s, the scarcity of young women led to a thriving market for buying wives. Bai, a recent college graduate, is tricked into accepting a job in a remote mountain village, only to discover she's been sold to a peasant family. As she's forced to comply with the family's demands, including being subjected to sexual abuse, Bai's determination to escape grows. With the help of other kidnapped women and a sympathetic teacher, Bai fights to regain her freedom and exact revenge on those who have wronged her.
