Merry Christmas, Yiwu background

Merry Christmas, Yiwu

In the city of Yiwu, where 600 factories produce Christmas goods worldwide, the importance of Communist values has diminished. Rising wages have allowed workers to indulge in trendy consumer goods, marking a shift towards a more consumer-driven economy, away from socialist principles.

In Yiwu, a city where Christmas is mass-produced for the world, Communist ideals have lost their appeal. Workers in Christmas factories can now afford luxuries like iPhones, but still live in crowded dorms. Many are nostalgic for a place they've never been, missing families, friends, and lovers. The young generation is disillusioned with long hours, poor working conditions, and their parents' expectations. Instead, they dream of starting their own businesses, being rich, independent, and in love.
