Pierce Mundy, a 30-year-old black man, is struggling to find direction in his life. He works at his parents' dry cleaners in a poor area of Inglewood, South Central Los Angeles, after failing to secure a job in his field. Pierce is bitter towards his lawyer brother, Wendell, who has abandoned their social class, and is particularly disapproving of Wendell's fiancée, Sonia, whom he believes is snobbish and full of herself. Despite his reservations, Pierce has promised to be the best man at Wendell and Sonia's wedding. He has also vowed to look out for his best friend, Soldier Richards, who is being released from prison. However, Soldier's life is cut short in an accident, and his funeral coincides with the wedding, forcing Pierce to confront his loyalties.
