In the Omo Valley of southwest Ethiopia, a centuries-old curse, "mingi," has been believed to afflict certain children, bringing disease, drought, and death to the tribe. These "mingi" children are brutally killed. Lale Labuko, a young and educated Kara tribe member, witnessed a child's murder at 15 and discovered his two older sisters were also victims of this practice. Determined to end this horrific tradition, Lale embarked on a five-year journey, accompanied by his tribe, to reform their ancient customs.
