A group of misfit soldiers, including deserters, psychopaths, and cowards, are tasked with defending a mountain pass against an impending Indian attack. Led by Capt. Richard Lance, who is unjustly blamed for the death of Lt. Holloway, the group must work together to stall for time until reinforcements arrive. Despite their initial dislike for Lance, they come to recognize his survival instincts, military knowledge, and leadership as their only hope for survival.
