A concentration camp prisoner's life is spared after he is discovered to possess a rare Persian book, leading to an unexpected opportunity to teach Farsi to a camp officer.
In 1942, a young Belgian man named Gilles is arrested by the SS and sent to a German concentration camp. To avoid execution, he claims to be Persian, and is assigned to teach the language to a German officer named Koch, who dreams of opening a restaurant in Persia after the war.
