In the midst of daily bombings by Japanese planes on Java, a small group of Allied soldiers and airmen, led by a Dutch commander, must rely on a single working fighter plane and five eager pilots. George Collins, chosen for a crucial mission to drop a 500-lb bomb on a Japanese carrier, is put under scrutiny by the commander, who learns about George's troubled past as a brilliant law student turned corrupt politician, and his quest for redemption through his love, Freddie.
