In the late 1940s, Jackson Pollock's abstract expressionist art gains recognition in Life magazine. The film flashes back to 1941, where Pollock is struggling with addiction and showing his art in small group exhibitions in New York City. He meets Lee Krasner, who puts her own artistic career on hold to support him as his partner, lover, and caretaker. To escape his vices and the stresses of city life, they move to the Hamptons, where Pollock finds creative inspiration and sobriety. His breakthrough in style earns critical acclaim and a feature in Life magazine, but his demons eventually return, leading to a tragic end.
