In ancient Thebes, Egypt, a young sculptor named Tumos falls in love with a ward-of-the-temple named Tanet, who is reprimanded by her father Benakon, a high priest of the temple, for their affair. Tumos enlists the help of his friend Prince Amenophis to marry Tanet, but only the Pharaoh can grant permission. Meanwhile, Benakon has given Tanet the name Nefertiti and tells her it is the gods' will that she marries Amenophis.
