A former Confederate and his four sons ride into a Western town, planning to rob the locals. When one of the sons mistakenly kills a boy playing with a toy gun, the family flees, but one son's guilt eventually leads him to return to the town. Unbeknownst to him, he arrives at the home of the boy's parents, who are torn between their desire for justice and their fear of further violence.
