In Russia's industrial heartland, a tumultuous era of Czarist rule is marked by worker discontent and strike planning. The introduction of spies and external agents by management only fuels the flames of rebellion. When a worker takes his own life after being falsely accused of theft, the workers rise up in protest. Initially, the strike is met with enthusiasm and collective demands are formed. However, as the strike drags on and management refuses to budge, hunger and desperation set in, accompanied by growing domestic and civic unrest. As tensions escalate, provocateurs and spies wreak havoc, and the military is eventually deployed to quell the uprising.
