In the small town of Pine Ridge, Lum Edwards is at his wit's end with his partner Abner Peabody, who has replaced their delivery car with a racehorse. Meanwhile, Lum struggles to muster the courage to propose to his love, Geraldine. In a series of mishaps, Lum and Abner's attempts to "rescue" Geraldine nearly end in disaster, but ultimately lead to success. However, just as Lum thinks he's got it right, a misdelivered proposal note sets off a chain reaction that puts him in a world of trouble, until a surprising twist from the sheriff saves the day.
