US Army sergeant Cody Cullen's tour in Afghanistan ends when his fellow soldier Jonesy is killed in an attack, prompting Cody to go on leave and return private possessions to Jonesy's widow. Along the way, Cody meets Faith Spelman, who writes Christmas cards to lonely soldiers, including him, an orphan. After saving Faith's father from a car accident, the Spellmans invite Cody home for the holidays, where he helps with their logging business. Despite feeling a connection with Faith, she remains committed to her fiancé, a wine broker.
