In this movie, Zachary Hicks is a long shot candidate for governor who is unexpectedly nominated at the Progressive party's convention. Kay suggests hiring Hal Blake, a charismatic speaker who is currently in jail for unpaid alimony, as the campaign manager. Despite his circumstances, Hal delivers a powerful speech in prison and convinces the party bosses to free him and pay off his debts. With his new role, Hal takes on the campaign and also navigates several complicated romantic relationships.
