A former concentration camp prisoner assumes the identity of a deceased acquaintance to flee to America, only to become embroiled in a complex web of lies, deceit, and brutality.
Victoria, a survivor of a Nazi concentration camp, assumes the identity of a deceased friend and moves to San Francisco to be with the friend's son. She inherits a large sum of money from the boy's great-aunt and falls in love with the trustee, Alan Spender.
