The Impatient Years background

The Impatient Years

A married couple re-experiences the excitement of their early romance, confronting the flaws in their relationship and reigniting their passion.

Sergeant Andy Anderson and his wife Janie appear in a divorce court, but their father-in-law, William Smith, objects and tells the judge their story. Andy and Janie got married after just three days in San Francisco and were separated soon after when Andy was sent overseas. Despite having a son, they struggled to connect upon Andy's return. The judge orders them to relive their four-day courtship to regain their love, starting from the coffee shop where they first met. As they reenact their story, they get married again, but their actions arouse suspicion from a hotel clerk and an old bellboy, who pose as Janie's guardian. The situation escalates when Janie becomes ill and Andy is accused of trying to poison her. Mr. Smith arrives with the military police, and Andy is committed to a hospital.
