In mythical Japan, a tailor-turned-Lord High Executioner must find someone to execute before the ruling Mikado's arrival. He sets his sights on a strolling minstrel who loves Yum-Yum, but also has feelings for her himself. The minstrel, desperate, considers suicide, until the executioner proposes a solution: marry Yum-Yum for a month, then be executed, sparing everyone's feelings.
