Three friends, Lowell, Aloysius, and Jim Burd, flee to a country farm after a shootout with the sheriff's department over a gun. As the police tighten their grip, Lowell decides to stay on the farm and declare independence from the US. As more outlaws join their new community, Lowell must impose order, becoming the very thing he initially rebelled against.
