The Nature of Things background

The Nature of Things

The film explores the rapid spread of Lyme disease, a tick-borne illness that has become a major public health concern in North America.

Lyme disease, the fastest spreading vector-borne disease in the United States, is spreading rapidly across Canada. The disease has devastating effects, is often misdiagnosed and mistreated, and is mired in a medical controversy. Despite evidence of Lyme-carrying deer ticks in Canada, some claim patients are told they cannot contract Lyme in the country. Doctors agree early treatment can cure Lyme with antibiotics, but others believe untreated infection can develop into a debilitating condition called Chronic Lyme. Patients with Chronic Lyme claim they're denied treatment and left to suffer, leaving many wondering why this is happening.
