Big Jim Cole leaves his law enforcement career behind and heads to Wyoming with his family to claim a parcel of land left to him by a relative. However, he encounters resistance from a neighbor seeking to acquire the land for his own sons, and a menacing grizzly bear, dubbed "Satan", which repeatedly kills Cole's livestock.
