The Secret of St. Ives

In the damp confines of Edinburgh Castle's dungeon, a group of seven prisoners, including Anatole de Keroual, a French soldier, and Floria Gilchrist, a woman with a hidden passion, form an unlikely bond amidst the bleak surroundings.

In the Napoleonic war, Anatole de Keroual is captured by the British and imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle's dungeon with six companions. He falls in love with Floria Gilchrist, the coveted prisoner of the fortress commander, Major Edward Chevenish. Chevenish demands Floria marry him in exchange for Anatole's pardon, but Anatole escapes from prison and flees to London to resolve his uncle's estate affairs. He is eventually caught and put on trial for murder.
