Alone in his apartment, Simon mourns the loss of his wife Anna, who took her own life just hours before. As he reflects on their time together, he recalls the day they first met, a year ago, when Anna walked into his pawn shop in Spanish Harlem, selling her jewelry. The mysterious and beautiful 30-year-old woman was a stranger in a strange land, and Simon was captivated by her enigmatic presence. He soon found himself smitten, asking her out to dinner and then proposing marriage on their first date.
