Tom, a boy with a vivid imagination, dreams of flying. He meets Mr. Lovejoy, an amateur inventor, at an abandoned airfield, who is building a man-powered flying machine, the Sky-Bike. Together, they strive to make the Sky-Bike a reality, but face competition from an unscrupulous Squadron Leader with his own plans.
