During World War II, a French lawyer named Chavel makes a bold decision to trade his entire fortune for a valuable commodity while being held captive by the Germans.

A French advocate, imprisoned by the Germans, trades his possessions to another prisoner to save his life. After the war, he returns to his home, now occupied by his sister's family, and poses as one of the prisoners.
