In 1914, Richard Hannay, a mining engineer, learns from his neighbor Colonel Scudder about Prussian sleeper agents planning to start World War I by assassinating a foreign minister. After Scudder's murder, Hannay is framed for the crime and flees to Scotland to clear his name and stop the agents.
