In the movie, a vice lord named Dominic hires a man named Swifty Dorgan to do a job for him. When Swifty seemingly falls to his death from a train, a detective named Henderson decides to impersonate him in order to infiltrate the mob. However, Henderson is eventually killed, and his sister Polly takes his place by posing as Swifty's widow. She lands a singing job at Dominic's nightclub, but things get complicated when the real Swifty returns.
