Pete Ramsey, a dedicated coal miner, marries Victory Kane, a scheming showgirl, and later becomes the mine's superintendent. However, Victory's dissatisfaction with her surroundings and her husband's social status leads her to have an affair with the mine's wealthy owner, Gary Linden, without Pete's knowledge. Just as tensions rise, a devastating tornado strikes the town and mine, threatening the lives of everyone involved.
