Hannes, a 67-year-old former school caretaker and fisherman, struggles to adjust to retirement after 37 years of work. He's forced to confront his estranged relationships with his wife and family, particularly his daughter Telma, who's been promoted to a bank manager, and his son Ari, who's divorced. Despite his tough exterior, Hannes begins to soften after a close call in his old fishing boat, and he and his wife Anna start to reconnect. However, their newfound closeness is short-lived as Anna suffers a severe stroke, leaving Hannes to care for her at home instead of in a nursing home. The film is a poignant exploration of Hannes' emotional turmoil as he learns to come to terms with his new reality.
