Michael Gordon, an aspiring artist in San Francisco, falls in love with Laurie Rogers, who buys one of his paintings. However, she leaves without a word, and Mike tracks her down to New York City, only to discover she's married to ruthless nightclub owner Rex Durant, who manages boxers. Rex offers to manage Mike as a boxer, and Mike accepts to be close to Laurie, unaware of Rex's sinister hold over his boxers and Laurie herself.
