The movie follows Jesse Martin, who became the youngest person to sail solo around the world at 21. He takes four young people on a 3-year voyage to remote and beautiful places, planning a 13-part documentary series. However, the crew's idealism is stripped away as they face reality, including co-dependence, cultural paradoxes, and conflicting expectations. The girls eventually leave the trip, and the remaining boys invite Maria on board. The journey ends in Thailand after a dramatic climax, with Jesse and his crew realizing that the journey is really about growing up.
