In a whimsical tale, a young poet discovers a unique living arrangement, hiding in a department store by day and courting his muse by night. However, he soon realizes that his idea isn't as original as he thought, as he encounters other residents who have been living in the store, hiding from the night watchmen. Among them is a young woman who longs to escape but is too afraid. As Charles befriends her, he becomes determined to show her the wonders of the world outside.
