The documentary tells the story of Afghantsi, military veterans of the Afghan war, often referred to as "Russia's Vietnam". It explores the Red Army's withdrawal from Afghanistan, beginning in May 1988, and takes viewers inside the barracks of a crack paratroop regiment, the wards of a Kabul military hospital, and even a helicopter gunship to a remote mountain outpost where Soviet conscripts served for 18 months without relief.
