A small-town lawyer, Ken Keeler, faces a challenge when migrant children from a run-down camp, "The Patch", are scheduled to attend the local school. A broken-down car leads to a friendship between Ken's son and Nathaniel, a young migrant boy. However, the townspeople fiercely oppose the idea, fearing it will harm the town's health and morals.
