AmericanEast background

AmericanEast

Two friends, a family man and a Jewish best friend, team up to launch a Middle Eastern restaurant, combining their passion for authentic flavors with cultural understanding and neighborhood connections.

In a sweltering Los Angeles, a heightened threat level has the FBI on high alert, searching for several Arab suspects. Amidst the chaos, Mustafa, a falafel shop owner, becomes a person of interest due to his Egyptian heritage. Personal issues also plague him, as his teenage son begins to question his Muslim faith and his sister, a nurse, defies his wishes to marry a cousin from Egypt, opting instead for a non-Arab suitor. Meanwhile, Omar, a falafel shop employee, struggles to break free from typecasting as a terrorist in the acting world. As Mustafa pursues his dream of opening a real restaurant, he finds an unlikely partner in Sam, a Jew, whose family disapproves of their collaboration. The American dream is put to the test as Mustafa navigates the complexities of identity, family, and community.
