This television re-creation of Clifford Odet's 1935 Broadway play is a portrait of a Jewish family in a Bronx tenement during the Depression years. The family, burdened by financial difficulties, takes in a boarder who lost a leg in World War I. The boarder adds a spark to the family's lives, and the family fights to survive on a limited income.
