A group of astronauts from the 20th century travel through time and crash land on Earth in 3085. Two of them, Alan Virdon and Pete Burke, find that their loved ones have passed away, technology has regressed, and humans are ruled by intelligent simians. They are captured by gorillas, deemed a threat, and sentenced to death. A curious chimpanzee named Galen befriends them, and after accidentally killing a gorilla, they all escape and become fugitives.
