A 14-year-old boy from Batad is forced to sell produce in the Banawe market to support his family while his father works to restore rice terraces in nearby Ifugao villages. The boy becomes obsessed with owning rubber shoes, despite not needing them, and takes on various jobs to earn them. He eventually becomes a tour guide and trades his guide fee for the shoes, but they're too big for him.
