A young working-class couple, Dick and Mandy, settle into a council house in Canterbury, only to discover their former teacher, Mr. Butcher, as their neighbor. The situation is further complicated by Mandy's intrusive, unmarried sister, Gloria, who frequently drops by uninvited, forcing Dick and Mandy to take a stand.
