Samantha "Sam" Marsh, a coal mining community native, is celebrating her father's retirement when she decides to defy her family's legacy and pursue environmental law. However, her father's illness, likely caused by years of coal mining, forces him to quit. The miners at the bar mock Sam's lifestyle, claiming she's unfit for the job. To prove them wrong, she joins them underground, but the mine shaft collapses, trapping her, her father, and the other miners. As oxygen dwindles, those who survived start to lose their sanity, fearing a grim fate similar to the 19 miners allegedly buried alive in the 1920s.
