In the scorching Arizona desert of 1871, a reformed outlaw embarks on a perilous journey to rescue a trading post family's kidnapped son from the merciless grasp of Apache raiders.

In the Arizona desert of 1871, a group of Coyotero Apaches defy orders to surrender, attacking army patrols and settlements. Outlaw Wade Cooper, wounded in a battle, is rescued by Nancy Mailer and taken to her family's trading post. The family, including Clint and his son Tim, hides Wade, but soon Apaches attack, taking rifles and holding Tim hostage. Clint agrees to provide more rifles in exchange for the boy's safety, with a promise to return him in ten days. Wade offers to help the Mailers retrieve Tim by stealing army rifles, in exchange for the gold nuggets Clint has been hiding.
