Tivii, an Inuit hunter with tuberculosis, leaves his family and home to recover at a Quebec City sanatorium. Feeling despondent and unable to speak French, he becomes isolated. Nurse Carole notices his struggles and arranges for a young orphan, Kaki, to be transferred to the institution. Kaki's experience with both cultures and languages helps Tivii regain his pride, energy, and ultimately, hope.
