In 1824 Vienna, a young composition student named Anna Holtz, 23, is sent to assist Beethoven with copying out the charts for his Ninth Symphony, just before its debut. As they work together, Anna not only helps with the transcription but also provides guidance from the orchestra pit during the performance. Over the next two years, Anna continues to support Beethoven, who is struggling with his health, deafness, and temper, while he in turn teaches her about composition and the principles of Romanticism.
