Cowboy Poets background

Cowboy Poets

The rugged image of the American cowboy is often belied by a hidden talent for poetry, subverting traditional expectations of the Western hero.

Cowboy Poets explores the tradition of cowboy poetry in Nevada, Montana, and Arizona, featuring three working cowboys who write about their lifestyle and the land they love. The documentary profiles Waddie Mitchell, a young rancher in northern Nevada; Slim Kite, a retired cowboy with a deep connection to the past; and Wally McRae, a third-generation rancher in northern Montana who uses his poetry to make personal statements about the importance of tradition and community.
