A young boy named Hajo dreams of becoming a sailor despite his family's concerns, and joins a Dutch East India Company ship bound for the East Indies. He's accompanied by his friend Padde, who accidentally stows away, and together they face numerous dangers of 17th-century sailing, including a shipwreck and a native attack. As they try to find their way back to safety, they're aided by a beautiful Oriental girl, but their friendship is put to the test when they all fall for a girl named Dolimah.
