Klaus, a kind and hardworking cobbler, lives with his brothers in a small village. After his brothers mistreat an old woman and refuse her request for help, Klaus meets her and offers her his own meager meal, which is transformed into a feast. As a reward, he receives a magical golden goose that can stick together anyone who is greedy, nosy, or envious. Klaus's subsequent journey attracts a strange and motley group, including a princess who is delighted by his antics.
